Richmond Hit & Run Driver Arrested
Press Release From Richmond Police
On 04/03/2015, police charged John D. Farthing, age 22, Four Mile Avenue, for several offenses following two hit and run collisions.
At approximately 2:43 P.M., officers were dispatched to investigate two hit and run traffic accidents on E. Main Street. The first occurred at the intersection of Smith Ballard Street and E. Main Street. A pickup truck being driven by Farthing turning from Smith Ballard Street onto E. Main Street (eastbound) struck an eastbound passenger car in the right front side. The collision sent the passenger car into a fence. The driver of the passenger car suffered abrasions to her knee and face, but she did not require medical treatment at that time. Farthing fled the scene without stopping as required.
Shortly thereafter, Farthing collided with another vehicle at the intersection of E. Main Street and N. Estill Avenue. The operator of the vehicle struck by Farthing was transported to Baptist Health after suffering severe chest pain as a result of the collision. Farthing fled from the crash scene on foot and a witness observed him discard some items from his pocket. Farthing was ultimately detained by a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy who had encountered the scene. A search of the area by RPD officers resulted in the recovery of three needles discarded by Farthing, one of which contained heroin.
Farthing was charged for the following offenses and lodged in the MCDC:
– Leaving Scene of Accident (2 counts)
– No Vehicle Insurance
– No Valid Registration
– Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
– Tampering with Physical Evidence
