Lexington firefighters have briefed media at the scene of the massive Blue Grass Stockyards fire.
According to firefighters, it started between 2-2:30 p.m. They say they don’t know the cause yet but no one was injured. It’s unknown how much livestock was lost but as previously reported, managers at the stockyards indicated there were “minimal animals” inside.
Firefighters say the stockyards which was celebrating 70 years in businesses this year, is a total loss.
They say 120 firefighters are working the scene and maintain the request everyone within a half-mile radius stay indoors.
According to the KU outage map, more than 7,000 customers are being affected by 18 outages. A spokesperson for KU says the power company is working to get power rerouted for customers.
