Police in Danville say they received multiple reports of a black bear being spotted Thursday morning.

The first report came in around 6:00 a.m. when the bear appeared in the Lincoln Avenue area.

Another report followed, at about 7:00 a.m., with the bear near the campus of the Kentucky School for the Deaf.

Officers say bears are usually wary of people unless humans feed or provoke them.  They are advising the public not to ever feed, approach, surround, or corner a bear.  Instead, police say to back away slowly, and make lots of noise.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife are aware of the situation, and are asking if anyone sees the bear, to contact them at (502) 330-7307.
