Whooping Cough Confirmed In Estill County
Estill County Health Department officials are warning parents of school age children, their child might have been exposed to pertussis or whooping cough.
Officials say they have two confirmed cases of the highly contagious infection.
Early symptoms can last for 1 to 2 weeks and usually include: Runny nose, Low-grade fever (generally minimal throughout the course of the disease) Mild, occasional cough, Apnea – a pause in breathing (in babies).
The health department is urging anyone with children in the school who are at least 10-years old to get the Tdap booster. The Estill County Health Department says they have the vaccine available for those who can’t get it at a doctor’s office.
