Chemical Weapons Convention systematic inspection a success

– By Bluegrass Chemical Activity –

Inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) visited the Blue Grass Chemical Activity (BGCA), located at Blue Grass Army Depot, Kentucky, May 12-17 to perform the systematic stockpile verification inspection, an annual process that has been taking place for 20 years.

The inspection team assured accountability of every chemical weapon declared to be in storage at the depot as part of the U.S. compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

The U.S. originally signed the CWC treaty in 1997, and agreed to destroy all of its chemical weapons and former production facilities, as well as halt the development, use, production and acquisition of chemical weapons.
Compliance with this Treaty is another facet of the safe and secure storage mission at BGCA.
