Berea Man Dies in Hunting Accident
– From WTVQ TV 36 –
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says a missing hunter who was found dead Tuesday was 69-year old Stanley Wayne Pearson of Berea.
Investigators say Pearson and a friend, also from Berea, went squirrel hunting on a large tract of land off of Martin Road, approximately 11-miles south of London in Laurel County early Tuesday morning.
The two men split up to hunt and Pearson never came out of the woods, according to investigators. He was reported missing to authorities, who began searching the area.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., a dog from the London Laurel Rescue Squad found Pearson’s body. Investigators say apparently Pearson had shot a squirrel and when he went to retrieve it, he slipped and fell down a bank, suffering a fatal injury. Investigators say Pearson’s death appears to be accidental.
