Bill Would Toughen Cell Phone Use While Driving

A new bill introduced to the house will toughen cell phone use while driving.

It’s already against the law to text while driving, but that law is hard to enforce and harder to get convictions. According to the administrative office of the courts 38 percent of those cases were dismissed. Only 48 percent of those ticketed had to pay their fines.

The new bill will prohibit holding a cell phone while driving. House Bill 66, would limit cell phone use to hands free only.

House Bill 66 would have to pass through the house and senate before becoming law. Fourteen states already ban handheld cell phone use while driving.
