– Clark Regional Medical Center (CRMC) recently held a ground breaking ceremony  to mark the beginning of a 45,000 square foot expansion project of the Clark Clinic.

The new three story building will provide services such as cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, a sleep clinic, wound care, center for rehabilitation, diabetes clinic, Coumadin clinic, congestive heart failure clinic and additional physician suites.

“We stand together to mark the beginning of our journey to create a comprehensive medical campus.  The additional space allows us to put a greater emphasis on the wellness aspect of health and aligns with our mission of “making communities healthier”, stated Cherie Sibley, CEO of Clark Regional Medical Center, “Healthcare is rapidly changing and the needs of our consumer are rapidly changing.  This project demonstrates our commitment to the health of our community and dedication to meeting the needs of our patients by expanding our space and our services.”

Dr. Erica Gregonis, a pulmonologist at CRMC and Chair of the hospitals Quality Committee stated, “We are trying to better serve our community by being proactive in our health care.  It’s no longer good enough to be reactive in healthcare, we have to focus more on being proactive and we have to anticipate the needs of our community.  The new facility should empower patients to take control of their health and allow for better quality of life.”

The new space will include a “Community Health Center” with services such as cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation for those who need assistance after open heart surgery, or help with their chronic lung disease, a congestive heart failure clinic for patients to learn how to best care for themselves and their diagnosis.  There will also be an Education Center, where routine classes will be held for diabetes management and healthy eating and support groups can come together to learn from each other.  Additionally there will be a new state of the art sleep center for patients who need a sleep study to determine what treatment options are needed as well as plans for a wound care center for those who have chronic wounds and prefer to have care close to home.

Congressman Andy Barr was on site for the ground breaking and commended the hospital and its leadership for their dedication to the health of the community, “Today is about expanding the health care services to the people of Clark County and the surrounding areas, and taking care of people in this community along with focusing on health.  Clark Regional Medical Center has a reputation of providing excellent patient care.  This new facility will provide enormous benefits to the community.”

The project, which will be built by Wehr Constructors Inc. of Louisville, will take approximately 10-14 months to complete according to project manager Jay Harris.  To see the plans for the new building or for more information about the services at Clark Regional Medical Center visit www.clarkregional.org.
