Man Involved In Police Standoff Faces New Charges

Gene Charlton the Berea man accused of holding his wife and two children in a home against their will in a nine hour standoff with police, now faces additional charges.

Charlton’s wife had just gotten an emergency protective order against him and she began sending texts to neighbors saying that he had a gun and asking for help. That led to the standoff that involved Berea and Richmond Police along with a Kentucky State Police Special Response Team.

In addition to kidnapping and violating a Kentucky EPO/DVO, Charlton, 51, now faces charges of rape and sodomy.

Charlton remains lodged at the Madison County Detention Center.
